Amp up your smoothie with some natural vitamins!!

Every morning smoothies are the perfect healthy food. Why? Because you can prepare a smoothie using your favourite ingredients, and you can add lots of vitamins and nutrient-rich foods that will turn it into a good-for-you treat that you can enjoy every single day.

What Vegetables can you add for that extra boost?

There's no better way to start off each morning than with a fresh smoothie chock-full of natural vitamins. You will feel revitalised, energetic, and ready to take on the day. When most people think of smoothies, they think of fruits and fruit juices, but veggies can be included to amp up the health factor. Some of the most popular vegetable add-ons include: kale, spinach, avocado, celery, (including leaves) cucumbers, carrots, zucchini, shredded cabbage, (green and purple) bok choy, beets, cruciferous vegetables are especially beneficial. They supply powerful anti-inflammatory phytonutrients called Glucosinolates. There is also scientific evidence that indicates glucosinolates are effective in decreasing the risk of developing certain types of cancer.

Many people have a hard time making themselves eat three to five servings of vegetables per day, which is the recommended daily amount for good health. Tossing a few into your morning smoothie is an excellent way to make sure you get at least a couple of them right off the bat.

Another healthy and delicious addition to a refreshing smoothie is Greek yogurt. Choose plain Greek yogurt to get almost double the amount of protein found in other yogurts.

How adding spices and powders can have a positive impact.

Smoothies can also get a punch of powerful health benefits and great taste from spices, powders, and other goodies that you probably already have in your kitchen. Start off with a half teaspoon and then adjust to taste: cinnamon fresh ground ginger Cocoa powder (unsweetened) almond, mint, or vanilla extract (or your favourite flavour) cayenne, turmeric, nutmeg. Many spices provide excellent health benefits. For example, ginger is good for indigestion, and cinnamon and turmeric aid inflammation issues and hypertension.

To blend your super delicious, mega healthy drink, choose a liquid that has very little, if any, sugar. If you are using fruit juice, use only 100% pure juice with added calcium, if possible. Better choices include skimming, soy, or almond milk (all unflavoured), water, or green tea. No matter which liquid you pick, add one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar for even more of a healthy boost.

When it comes to smoothies, the possibilities are endless. You can customize them to your liking and then switch them up anytime at all. Make them for your whole family. Who doesn't love a cold, slushy treat full of tasty fruit? The healthy additions can be your little secret! You'll feel great knowing that you're doing something that your body will love you for.
